PS3 “Backwards Compatibility” and all the games I want to play.

Lately, when I come home from work, I’ve been going down to the Bunker with my 3-year old. She loves dancing and singing, and we have been doing a lot of Singstarring together. (She seriously knows the words to half the songs on Singstar Pop.) ?

However, this week I?contracted the?T-Virus and?my chords haven’t been up to the task. So, in order to keep the music thing going, I busted out Parappa the Rappa 2 and ran it on the PS3. This was fine, but for anyone who has played the original, and loved Fleaswallow and Moosilini, you know that it?isn’t good enough.

So I went up to the other repository of junk in the house, the Loft. This is the place with all the?baby crap. Old strollers, toys, jumper thingies, trikes, etc.?For some reason it also has my binders of cds, one of which has the Playstation and Dreamcast classics.?After tearing the place apart, and knocking all the precariously balanced piles over, I tried again in the Bunker Workshop. The place looks even worse now.

Ironically, the thing was in the cleanest room in the house, the DDR Room. Also ironically, 30 feet away from me, and not up 3 flights of stairs.

Anyway, I dug out Parappa the Rappa to see how it played on the PS3. At this point, I had no idea if PS1 games are supposed to work in it. It booted up groovy cool-like, and soon we were Kick, Punch, Chopping to the beat.

?Well.. sort of anyway. The game is out of sync to the point?that you can’t watch the overhead?bar to know when to hit the buttons. It also doesn’t save. It also doesn’t play the levels in order. It also abruptly ends the game when you finish Fleaswallow’s song. It also… well… sucks.

?So, I was sure?Um Jammer Lammy would be better. It is at least a year newer, and has newfangled codez and such, but alas, similarly trashed it is, young jedi. Same sync problems, same bizarre song order, and same sudden loss of all progress (this time when playing the Vital Idol song.)

At this point, some of you may be wondering why I am playing PS1 games on the PS3. I’ll let you in on a secret that the others already know,?all PS3 games suck?(unless they are available on another platform.)?

?If only the Singstar Next Gen were here, I might be forced to revise that statement. In any case, I’m going to have to import the game since the geniuses at Sony haven’t announced a North America release.

With that, I am leaving you with some gorgeous and near?perfectly played?Youtube videos of Parappa and Um Jammer Lammy. Golden.?
