Cobalt Flux Wii, Step 2 – Close but no cigar

I’ve been slacking off. Thanks to The Orange Box, I’ve been Portaling, Episode 2’ing, and listening to “Still Alive” over and over again (and having a hard time sleeping because of it.)

Anyway, since I had something more important to do, I decided it would be a great time to make some progress on Cobalt Flux Wii!

First, I decided to just cheap out and scratch that conductive shizzle off and lay those traces bare.

Scratchy!

That is as simple as scraping them with a utility knife blade.

Next, I whipped out a green scrubby and made it all shiny like.

Shiny!

Then… I did some really horrible soldering. I ditched the X and Y leads, as I have the old school Flux pad.

Icky!

Finally, I closed it up. I would have soldered the dsub to the end, but… I forgot whether I needed male or female. And it’s late.

Pretty?

More… later…

    Looking good so far!

I’m really looking forward to seeing the conclusion of this article, as I would like to get myself a “real” dance platform for this game 🙂

I just got the DDR for the wii and was trying to find a pad that works with both my consoles (also have a 360). Would love to know how this beast turns out. If it works well i’ll be ordering me up a Flux mat 🙂

    thanks!

ps: your flux->360 project looks rockin’

So, does it work with Mario Mix?

Does it work with the Wii?

I’m considering picking up a copy of Mario Mix if I think I can make one of those boxes for my flux. It sounds cool but I’ve never soldered before. Should I feel intimidated?
